Historic Celebration on Ilha Brava: District Assembly and Jubilee of 125 Years of the Gospel in Cape Verde.
The news was greeted with jubilation by the local congregation, who are now preparing for a memorable time. It's more than just an administrative meeting: it will be a true feast of praise, reflection and gratitude to God for all He has done through the Church of the Nazarene on Cape Verdean soil.
The story goes back to 1900, when the Reverend João José Dias, a brave son of the island of Brava, returned from the United States, where he had embraced the Gospel of Christ. Moved by a deep conviction and love for his land, he returned with a burning mission: to proclaim the good news to his people. In 1901, he was officially recognized as a Nazarene missionary, thus beginning the journey of the Church of the Nazarene in Cape Verde. His courage, resilience and unwavering faith planted the seeds of a movement that today flourishes throughout the archipelago.
The pastor of the local church Antonio Manuel Goncalves , moved, expressed the congregation's pride at having been chosen to host such a significant moment. "It is with great pride that our church in Nova Sintra has been designated as the venue for such a special and important date. This is a great responsibility, but also a great honor." He called for the whole church to unite and work together, stressing that this event should be more than a celebration - it should be a time of blessing, renewal and transformation in the hearts of everyone present.
The island of Brava, known for its natural beauty and cultural richness, is now preparing to welcome brothers and sisters from all parts of the district. It will be an opportunity not only to remember the past, but to envision the future of the Nazarene mission in Cape Verde, inspiring new generations to follow with faith, commitment and service.
Let this jubilee be more than a date - let it be an altar of gratitude and a new starting point for what God will yet do through His Church.
Brava, land of origin. Nova Sintra, cradle of rebirth. And the Gospel... the eternal flame that continues to illuminate.
